After far too many years of sloth, it is time to update the bimrocks site. Update? More like give the site a thorough cleaning, retrofit, remodel…
Why now?
A colleague in Iran suggested gently that the site needed some overhaul. He had found it useful when starting his research a few years ago but I thinks it should be improved. He is right, I realized abashedly.
So – in a flurry of stressful effort I managed to migrate all three of my websites to a new, much improved Host last week: SiteGround. No more do I have to hassle with my old host Yahoo Small Business, which no longer is useful nor even responsive to my frequent requests for Help!. And, with WordPress even more intuitive to work with nowadays, I may actually enjoy the editing of my sites.
I have a lot of work to do on this site so bear with me – and, check back now and again! Feel free to leave Comments.
March 2023 UPDATE: I have had to start again on the website update. In the past it was relatively easy to design a website in 2010 when I created most of mine. (I created the bimrocks site at Geoengineer.org in 2006 with a very limited and clunky free theme). WordPress had a few free themes and I just picked one in 2010 (called, simply “TwentyTen”) and used that theme for all my sites and stuck with it until just this month.
But nowadays websites must be optimized for SEO and mobile phones and iPads and the like. So I have had to find a few themes I can work with and like – not an easy pairing. Plus so much content needs changing and broken links repaired.
So: pardon me if every time you revisit the bimrocks website it looks different. That is because I am playing around with themes, formats and layouts; screwing something up; freezing up my site; restoring a backup version; and, then trying again.
All this messing about keeps my 75-year old brain active…
